Cleaning Instructions for our Brushes

With thorough cleaning after each use, our paint brushes will last for years.   If you have used oil paint or varnish, follow these tips:

1. Clean the brush with mineral spirits.
2. Dry the bristles/filaments with a clean cloth.
3. Now, take a natural soap and lather the bristles/filaments.
4. Rinse and repeat the soap step a few times. Dry again with a clean cloth.
5. Take the non sticky side of a piece of duct tape and wrap the bristles with the tape. You do not want the tape to stick to the bristles/filaments.
6. You will have the sticky side out. Take another piece of duct tape and cover the sticky side.
7. Hang the brush to dry.

This paint brush cleaning process will maintain the bristles/filaments in excellent shape and can be repeated over and over again. Natural bristles tend to bend out and can loose its shape when in contact with water, this is the reason for the duct tape treatment. A brush used for only water-based can be stored with a little bit of natural soap in the bristles. If you have used water-based/acrylic paint, skip the cleaning step with mineral spirits.
